LESLIE SCALAPINO AWARD
We’re very excited to announce this new scholarship opportunity for MFA students.
The Leslie Scalapino Award will be given to one student who demonstrates excellence in the field of experimental postmodern women’s poetry and poetics. Only students
enrolled at Naropa University in the MFA in Writing and Poetics or MFA in Creative Writing are eligible.
AWARD AMOUNT: $2,000 towards tuition for the Summer Writing Program.
ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must be:
1. enrolled at Naropa University in the MFA Writing and Poetics or the MFA Creative Writing, and be attending the Summer Writing Program;
2. have a body of work in the field of experimental postmodern women’s poetry and poetics;
3. have a demonstrable financial need (students must submit a FAFSA);
4. be a US citizen or permanent resident;
5. have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Because scholarships are need-based, students wishing to be considered for this aid must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Students should also submit:
1. A personal letter, 500-700 words, discussing:
a. Your contributions and activities within the Jack Kerouac School, Naropa University, and/or the local/national artistic community;
b. Recent accomplishments, current projects or publications of your work;
c. Your interest in experimental postmodern women’s poetry and poetics, including but not limited to the work of Leslie Scalapino.
2. A writing sample of 5-10 pages of your current work.
Decisions will be made by the Financial Aid Office in conjunction with faculty from the Jack Kerouac School. Decisions will be based on the quality of the individual’s work, their letter, and financial need.

Deadline for Application: April 1, 2011, by 5 p.m. (MST) to finaid@naropa.edu
